DESERT SAFARI IN THE U.A.E
I never thought I’d end up in a 4×4 tumbling down and skidding all over sand dunes, let alone enjoy being in a 4×4 tumbling down and skidding all over sand dunes .
Recently we had a ‘serious discussion’ where my husband declared we don’t do enough fun stuff and spend too much time in our home. Personally, I don’t have an issue with that lifestyle but the boy has a point. So when my Brother in law called me and said he wants to plan Desert Safari because his mum is in town I said ‘Let’s do this!!’
I had a fantabulous time. So, for anyone who wants to invest in this experience, I have not just one but two thumbs up. It was so much fun that my mind refused to accept it since I was completely closed minded about the safari part. The camping and food and belly dancing part, I needed no convincing for. If there was ever a time to roam around in a desert and actually enjoy it, this is it. The weather in UAE in winter months is just perfection!!
Experience
They pick you up from your place and drive for about an hour, in case of Abu Dhabi, where I reside, they drove us to Al Ain. You do the whole dune driving thrill rush this that for about 45 minutes and then right before sunset they take you to the camp where you can ride camels, sand board, dune-buggy and take pictures. After dinner and belly dancing they drive you back to your place. They picked us up at 3 PM and dropped us off at around 9 PM.
STYLE TIP:
I feel like long, flared dresses might pose the threat of unintended leg flashing because it is really windy. If you’re going to wear a maxi dress or skirt go for something that would not aid an accidental Marilyn Monroe moment. My winner decision was wearing high top sneakers though. Everybody had sand in their shoes and I DID NOT. Do not wear pumps because sand will flow into your shoes like nobody’s business and avoid sandals because it’s hard to walk around sand in them. Wear any high-top shoe and you’re golden. If you have problems with getting sand in your hair, wear a scarf. Also take sunglasses, wind plus sand equals argh-theres-something-in-my-eye.
